In April of 2006 AAPL Advocates for
Access to Public Lands started a
word of mouth campaign to federally legislate a land designation to
preserve multiple use lands. The concept of the Semi Primitive BackCountry Recreation Designation took off like wildfire & within
ten months signed resolutions were received from almost every
Chamber of Commerce, Board of Supervisors, Indian tribe, &
recreation group within Mono & Inyo Counties.
We hope you will become part of the
campaign & help us gather support to convince our federal
legislators that a legislated designation ensuring continued
multiple use of public lands is necessary and timely to provide an
alternative to more restrictive designations which greatly reduce or
totally eliminate existing motorized & non-motorized recreation.
This new federal designation will also preserve existing renewable
resource harvesting, grazing, active land management & handicapped
access.
ALERT
Recently numerous pieces of legislation
have been introduced in the house & senate proposing to designate
vast amounts of inappropriate Wilderness (27,000,000 acres), which
would close thousands of miles of existing roads & trails. Unless
people like you take action now, there is likely to be little or no
recreation access on your public lands.
ACTION ITEMS
The 3 Step Plan to preserve Public Access & Forest Health
STEP ONE ~THE PETITION~
It only takes a few seconds to sign, but keep in mind
petitions have very limited impact. Our chances of
success would be far better if you also do one or both
of the below Steps to ensure your access & forest health
are protected

Petition |
STEP TWO ~THE RESOLUTION~
Have your organization cut & paste the RESOLUTION onto
their letterhead

for a copy of the RESOLUTION
Email or mail the
resolution on your signed organizations letterhead to

| STEP THREE ~SPREAD THE WORD~
The most powerful thing you
can do is spread the word.
Please tell others why it so
important to preserve our Multiple Use Lands.
Please encourage other organizations to sign the
RESOLUTION.
Here are some examples of groups you could call in your
town & encourage them to sign the resolution.
Chamber of Commerce
Hunting association
Off Road Group
BackCountry Horseman
Mountain Bike Group
Cattleman Association
Tourism Bureau
Board of Supervisors
Most organizations have monthly meetings & would be
happy to have you show them the Powerpoint, so they can
understand why it so
important to preserve Multiple Use Lands
Talk to as many organizations as you can & ask them to
sign
Ask then to ask other organizations to join the campaign
to preserve access to our public lands
Look in the TOOLS section for
documents that can help your campaign to preserve your
Multiple Use public lands. |
